Concentrated H2S04 (10 mL) was added dropwise to the solution of 5- bromo-2-iodobenzoic acid (100 g, 305.89 mmol) in MeOH (800 mL). The mixture was refluxed for 16 hours and then concentrated. The residue was dissolved in ethyl acetate (1 L).
