Herein, Pd/Ag2CO3 promoted C8 arylation of the heterocycles I (R = H, Me, Cl; R1 = H, Me, Cl; R2 = H; R3 = CHO) by overriding the N-chelation on O-chelation to form diarylimidazo[1,2-a]pyridine-carbaldehydes I (R2 = Ph, 3,4-dichlorophenyl, 4-formylphenyl, etc.; R3 = CHO) was reported. In this way, various examples have been synthesized in good to excellent yield. Furthermore, Pd/t-BuOK system has been developed for the novel deformylative C3 arylation of 2-aryl-imidazo[1,2-a]pyridines I to form diarylimidazo[1,2-a]pyridines I (R2 = H; R3 = Ph, 3,4-dichlorophenyl, 4-formylphenyl, etc.).
